Using data to identify root-cause and justify investment.


Challenge – A contract furniture manufacturer was experiencing a high rate of rejects for system panel warping and length and did not have a system in place to ensure panel flatness and capture variable data.

Solution – Component Engineering designed an automated laser-based measurement system to detect panel warping and confirm length. In addition, panel measurement variable data was captured and sent to an SBC database that correlated other manufacturing variables to help identify correlations and root-cause.

Outcomes and Benefits – The program provided the contract furniture manufacturers with the data needed to minimize issues throughout their manufacturing process and served as a justification resource to transition from a selective manual inspection process to a 100% automated inspection process with improved data and significantly reduced cycle times.
